The awards are open to any digital imaging professional, screen printer, specialist print company or individual. Full details and entry forms are available on the awards website, www.sgiaaawards.asn.au. The biennial Awards are strongly contested by both Australian and New Zealand companies across 23 categories – including 3 for garment and textile printers. SGIAA spokesperson, Nigel Davies says “The awards are an excellent opportunity to receive industry recognition for the talents and hard work of staff. The tough post GFC environment had made it inappropriate to hold the biennial event in recent years and we greatly appreciate the support of our sponsors like IMEDIA, in allowing this to happen in 2011”. Gold sponsors to the awards are IMEDIA, a leading supplier to the wide format printing industry, along with Image Magazine and VISA. Silver sponsors are Avery Dennison, Kiwo/Ulano/Wilflex and Sefar/Marabu , whilst Roland, DIC, Fujifilm Sericol, Mulford Plastics, and DGS Mimaki are Bronze Sponsors. Chris Lewis-Williams, General Manager of IMEDIA says “IMEDIA is extremely happy to partner with the SGIAA for this important event. An awards win can make a real difference to your business, particularly in the eyes of customers. I encourage all specialist printing professionals to place their entries now.” Winners will be honoured in an outstanding venue with spectacular views across Sydney Harbour.
In today’s economy it is more important than ever to consider every aspect before making an investment. You want a system that will provide the right combination of quality, productivity and flexibility needed to satisfy customers
There is nothing worse than quoting and winning a job only to discover the wide format substrate supplier does not have enough of the particular material in stock. Bad enough on the east coast where there may be alternative sources of supply, or even a substitute material to be round, but almost sure to be a disaster in the smaller states...
Faced with an exorbitant transport bill to move his wide-format inkjet machines from Sydney to Melbourne in time for PrintWorks, Chris Lewis-Williams took matters into his own hands... We have added 2 new profiles to our downloads page - An Onyx Yupo FPU profile for the HP Latex L65500 and a Versaworks Phototex profile for the Roland XC-540.
ID Signs recently completed a huge project to allow customers to easily identify the different sizes of flat screen televisions in all "The Good Guys" stores nationally. These triangular decals were printed on a HP wide format printer using Yupo Octopus suction media. The perfect substrate for this application, Yupo Octopus is removable and re-usable and runs no risk of adhesive or resin damaging the valuable television screens in store as Octopus works on Yupo’s own micro-suction technology! Yupo Octopus is a synthetic paper that adheres to smooth surfaces such as glass, acrylic, PVC, aluminium, polypropylene and coated paper and is available in grades suitable for aqueous, eco-solvent and UV curable inks. Know the FACTS - composite honeycomb boards are NOT created equal! The opportunities to use composite honeycomb boards (HCB) will continue to increase in 2010 as the market searches for more environmentally friendly display solutions. With the number of HCB’s available on the rise, it pays to look closely at the facts when making a choice! The structure of the honeycomb cells contained in the board can be either “Closed Cell Corrugated” (CHC) or “Open Cell Expanded” (EHC). The latter is often used in inexpensive, hollow core doors and provides a much lower dry crush strength. X-Board uses CHC technology to provide a dry crush strength of 90 tons per square metre, the highest in the industry for composite paper board. HCB’s typically have a honeycomb cell core, constructed from recycled materials, with a direct printable liner on both sides. The liner can be a refrigeration grade graphic board, with a high level of recycled content, like X-Board, or more commonly a virgin fibre board. In fact, X-Board contains a market leading 97% post consumer recycled fibre content, that’s more than double the recycled content of other similar products! One final feature to be aware of is whether the board contains a non-recyclable polyethylene layer. While X-Board does not, some other products do.
